The Disparity in Greenspace Quality Between Low and High SES Settings: A Case Study in Victoria

Abstract The presence of greenspace, its profound impact and association with physical mental health, biodiversity, aesthetical pleasure has been delineated abundantly. Contrarily, there is a concerning disparity in the accessibility proximity between affluent deprived areas urbanised localities. Existing literature prioritised distribution domains when assessing inequitable greenspace consequently catalysed research gap quality domains. This paper endeavours to fill this through case study Melbourne, Australia using quantitative method extract findings policy analysis generate recommendations. Socioeconomic data from deprivation indexes systematically defined low high SES (socioeconomic status). A GIS (Geographical Information System) observation greenspaces scored spaces according scoring criterion contingent on safety/security, environmental elements, accessibility, maintenance/cleanliness, facilities/amenities, aesthetic facets. Statistics were then synthesised produce Cohen effect score highlighting disparities each facet two contrasting groups. Findings affirmed an existent contributed existing strands surrounding unjust distribution.
